Wave the Explorer

WAVE will attempt to row across the North Atlantic Ocean, from USA to Europe, aiming for England. He'll start around the Summer of 2009, in his custom, high-tech, hand-made Map24 foot ocean row boat.
The north Atlantic W-E crossing is considered one of the most challenging of ocean rows. In fact, the only other American to try this route solo perished.

Message From Wave: The front and rear cabins are ready for skins. The internal structure pieces have been cut and are also waiting for skins. The boat will go together quickly in the next two weeks.

Meet the Explorer

Wave Vidmar, 44, Professional Explorer
Wave has been a life-long adventurer and explorer.  Starting at the early age of 5, Wave began taking solo trips to neighboring towns and cities.  By age 10 he was sailing and climbing solo throughout California.  As he grew, so did his interest in explorations and adventures.

Wave has been a professional sport climber and was a Nationally Ranked Sport Climber and instructor.  He’s also been a designer for The North Face, a laser designer and physics researcher, ran the busiest climbing gym in the world, helped develop software and was a demo artist for Adobe Systems, as well as consulted to numerous businesses including the California State Senate Small Business Committee.  In addition, Wave has won awards for photography, writing, video production, and is an accomplished musician and artist.

Wave has extensive outdoor experience and survival skills and is considered an expert, consulting to other explorers on survival, outdoor technology, and use.  He has toured Europe, Japan, Jamaica, Hawaii, and the US by bicycle, crossing the US solo in 2000, while also earning his skydiving license, alligator wrestling and other adventures.

In 2004, Wave attempted the first American solo expedition to the geographic North Pole.  Setting many world records and ‘firsts’, Wave changed the concepts and current understanding of human physiology, improved product design, and conducted research given to academia and researchers free of charge.

Waves motto:  Envision – Inspire – Accomplish, he strives to change lives by promoting positive thinking and action, and striving to show others that they are much more capable than they believe by breaking perceived limitations and boundaries.  Reaching millions world-wide, Wave sees his position as an Explorer as a social responsibility and is proud to include a strong educational component in all of his expeditions, reaching 45,000 schools around the globe.

Today, Wave makes his home in the Augusta, Georgia and is the Explorer in Residence at the National Science Center’s Fort Discovery.  Currently Wave  is preparing for several more ground-breaking and historic expeditions challenging himself and the world.
